Tent House

Another of Matt’s award-winning projects, this Tairua Beach home on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula was masterfully designed by Strachan Group Architects. 

The unique, two-story residence, featuring four bedrooms and a rumpus room, draws inspiration from the shapes and structures of a canvas tent, with pleats, folds, and sharp lines that nestle seamlessly into the sandy dunes. 

The build presented a unique challenge, with walls angled inward at seven degrees to maximize daylighting opportunities. 

The design also incorporates cylindrical stairwells and curved walls, creating a harmonious connection to its coastal surroundings. 

The home offers three distinct views at different elevations: the rolling sand dunes, the breaking ocean surf, and a rearward perspective of the majestic Coromandel Ranges
